Sleep is very important to daily functions and overall wellness.

Why is sleep important to you?

Sleep is VERY important to me because it allows me to function, concentrate, and helps me get through the day with energy. If I don’t get enough sleep I am not a pleasant person and it either results into me missing school or taking a nap pushing off any school work. It’s important to get enough sleep because it helps you stay healthy. I like sleep because I get to cuddle  with my puppy and that’s probably the best part of my day!

Do you think that sleep should take priority over things such as work or school?

I don’t think sleep should take priority over work or school, vice versa. Balance is important and having a schedule is also important. If we over work our bodies it isn’t il_570xn-989484795_d58mhealthy. Without sleep we wouldn’t be able to give work and/or school our full potential.

Discuss some of the common barriers that people may have to getting enough sleep and how they can fix those problems.

Speaking on my behalf, I know my barriers include my cell phone which contains social media, where I go from twitter, to instagram, to Facebook, to snapchat, refresh them all and do it all over again. Also Netflix is also a huge barrier… currently I’m binge watching Grey’s Anatomy (yes, this is my first time watching it), and if I’m being honest, I have like 7 other series I’m watching – I know, I know….. If I don’t watch t.v. after a certain time and put my phone away this could help me go to bed at a decent hour.

Do you think naps are something that people should do on a daily basis or only certain days?

tumblr_static_tumblr_static__640I feel that if you get enough sleep at night then a nap really shouldn’t be necessary. But if you lacked sleep then I think a nap is a great way to boost energy – sometimes lol. Personally, I rarely get a good nights sleep so naps are common for me. I’ve had those naps where I wake up and I think its the next day, or even the next month because I napped so hard. Sometimes, I’ll wake up feeling 10x worse t
han I did before my nap. And sometimes I’ll try and take a power nap but it’ll turn into an hours nap.




mmmm…. food


I feel as if my life revolves around food. I eat when I’m hungry, I eat when I’m bored, I eat basically eat my feelings. I used to be one of the pickiest eaters but the older I’ve grown and the longer I’m in college the less picky I’ve become. I don’t have a healthy diet and I don’t try to eat healthy either – which I really should. I don’t eat a typical three meals a day and grocery shopping isn’t something I do regularly. I eat mostly fast food foods, since they’re on the go – like I always am, and they’re cheap. I’m surprised I haven’t turned into a mini shredded chicken quesadilla from taco bell yet but how often I eat there. I know fast food only hinders me and doesn’t help me – except for helping to feed my hunger. Fast food isn’t healthy and it isn’t how one should eat daily. I wish I had time to actually prepare a nice meal, or even food prep for a week. The struggle I have is my groceries always tend to go bad because its just me and the package portions are too big and I tend to make most things go to waste, which is money going to waste. Also, working at Hooters makes trying to eat healthy 10x harder! This is why I resort to eating out so often. I know when I am done with college I am going to try and change my eating habits and I’ll hopefully be in a less stressed environment where I am able to take time to focus on my health and needs!




According to the Church of Latter-Day Saints, family is important because it provides love, support and a framework of values to each of its members. Family members teach each other, serve one another and share life’s joys and sorrows. Families provide a setting for personal growth.

On my behalf, I couldn’t agree more with the Church of Latter-Day Saints view on the importance of family. Although, the importance of family serves much more than what’s stated above, those are just the obvious. There is a saying that we get to pick our friends but we don’t get to pick our family, and to me, I couldn’t be more fortunate than I am that God granted me a better family than what I could’ve picked myself.

Family has shown me the extensive measures one will go to be there for someone when they need it most. Every family goes through the good and the bad, the ups and the downs, my family especially. My parents divorced when I was approximately in sixth grade. I thought it was the end of the world and that my family would be broken. Behind closed doors, my parents were toxic for one another, no one knew but my siblings and I – I knew this wasn’t how a family was suppose to be. As I grew older, I realized just because my parents aren’t married does not mean my family was broken. It’s a much happier world now that they are separated, and they have managed to still remain civil.

With my parents being divorced it made me appreciate my family more than I already had. I am very close with both my mom and dads side of the family, therefore, I struggle choosing between whose side of the family I want to spend holidays, occasions, more time, etc with. 3 months ago today will forever make that decision harder. I lost my cousin Patrick (my moms brothers son). He was 25, and from what we knew, a very healthy guy. He was successful, spontaneous, handsome, caring, and above all else, he was an important piece to our family. He’s aortic heart valve burst the morning of July 13th. That day changed everyones life that Patrick impacted. He was 1 of 5 boys, 2 of which were adopted when they were babies – crack babies to be exact. My aunt and uncle (who are now divorced), provided life for these 5 boys no matter blood related or not, they were brothers and they shared a bond stronger than anything in this world. Everyone struggled with Patricks passing – to this day I’m still in disbelief he’s gone. Josh, his brother, struggled immensely. Since he was a crack baby, he was already addicted to drugs the day he was born. Recently, Josh reached 13 months of being sober, was seeking major help and growing out of a terrible disease and he was doing so so well. With his brother passing away, it was too much for him and he fell into a relapse that lead to an overdose and him passing away this past weekend. I now feel as if my family is breaking.

I have learned that the saying, “hug your loved ones every chance you get because you never know when the last time you can hug them will be” is so powerful and true. Being away at school has taught me the importance in family and how much valuable time I am losing with them – but that is life and we must endure pain to make us stronger. This has also taught me that I shouldn’t have to lose 2 very important people in my life to make me realize how important family is – it’s not that I don’t think they aren’t important, I just never think of the what ifs in life while shoving my face with a turkey leg on thanksgiving or my aunts homemade cookies on christmas, because come on, who does. Time, is valuable, spend it wisely.

Music – Medicine For The Soul

Any song by the Dixie Chicks is a perfect go to during a girls night or even being in the feels on a summer night cruise with the windows down. Goodbye Earl^ is def one of those songs me and my girls jam to every time we get together (if you don’t know who Mary Anne and Wanda are then we can’t be friends). The Dixie Chicks can instantly put you in trance making you feel like you’re under the spot light and just won vocalist of the century, even if your tone deaf like me and weren’t blessed with any singing ability. They make you feel like your problems aren’t that bad in life and make you feel like you are worth more than you know.

Martina is the girl to go to when you’re in your feels. All of her songs have such deep meaning and they are songs that you can just be in the moment with any of them. This is another artist that you can enjoy while having a girls night. I went to her concert over the summer at our county fair with my boyfriend and I could tell he was not thrilled to be there but he stuck it out for me and I love him for that! I feel that women are Martina’s main audience and that we connect with her music more than men do. Her music is mostly soft and gentle and make you feel like a ballarina twirling around on puffy clouds while in tears because of how beautiful and true her messages are in the songs.

The Chainsmokers are newer to the music scene and are a different style of music than the previous two that I listed. Any song they have are perfect for when you need to just let the music take over. If your one who pays attention to the background music they are what you need to listen to. They are perfect to take a drive to or even play at a party or in a bar. Their song “Closer” that was released this year was a MAJOR hit and to me it still is! The song I have listed is one they just came out with and it didn’t disappoint when I first heard it since “Closer” set up some competition for themselves. Their music just puts you in a mood to dance and sing along to the music at the top of your lungs.

This is one song I for sure have been listening to lately on repeat, I LOVE IT! It instantly makes me think of my boyfriend and how crazy I am about him. Since we have a long distant relationship it’s nice to come across songs that can instantly remind me of him. We have this thing where if a song reminds us of one another we share it with each other – which I’m sure we aren’t the only ones who do this! I love doing this because I can be anywhere at anytime, such as when I’m driving or in the grocery store and if I hear the song playing it gives me the biggest smile and makes me feel like he’s not that far from me. It’s relatable to that warm fuzzy feeling we all get embarrassed and red in the face talking about. Brett Young has a lot of cute songs that seem to be directed towards an in love couple.

Music can help improve ones mood immensely. Its medicine for the soul. It can be relaxing, relatable, uplifting, healing, etc. Music is so important whether we notice the importance it holds or not. Listening to music is definitely my escape in this world. It brings me to a place where I have zero problems and everything can be butterfly and rainbows. Whether you’re crying your eyes out to sad songs, blasting beats in your car singing at the top of your lungs with your best friend, or slow dancing to a love song with your significant other, music is something we all go to for healing, happiness, love, etc.

Less Stress Is Best!


Being stressed is something everyone deals with in their lifetime and some may not know how to deal with it. I myself sometimes don’t know how to deal with stress because it can seem to be too much to handle. Many things can trigger stress in someones life and many things can help reduce that stress. I tend to try and avoid the fact that I am stressed out most times and I think that I feel that I am too young to be so stressed out, but college can be an all around stressful environment and so can the process of becoming an adult. To me, some positive habits that I use to help manage my stress are very slim but consist of simple things such as cleaning, playing with my puppy, listening to music while looking at pinterest, or being with my friends and family. stress
